The county seat of Clackamas County is the town of Oregon City, located south of Portland. A Brief History

Clackamas County derives its name from the Native American people who lived in the area prior to white settlement. The Clackamas Indians were part of the larger Chinook tribe. It was incorporated in 1843 as one of the original four counties in Oregon.
